In December, my husband and I were privileged to travel to Antarctica on the Atlas Ocean Voyages ship, the World Navigator.
I have a lot of respect for the explorers who made the trip through Drake’s Passage. The seas were so rough that we were in danger of being thrown out of our beds all night. But it was worth it. Antarctica is magnificent. And penguins are cute.
We hung out with many interesting and fun people on our trip, and hope to stay in touch with them. Shout-out especially to Roxy, Lori and Jonathan, and Deb and Pat. Kudos to Henry, the expedition leader, and his fantastic staff, who offered informative lectures and kept us from slipping into waist-deep snow. I enjoyed tea time in the observation deck, where I could watch icebergs calve while enjoying pastries and sandwiches. Much more comfortable than either Amundsen or Scott could ever dream of.
